Tips on How to Make Money with Squidoo

Squidoo has become a place where thousands go to try and make money. While some have become very successful with making money from their lenses others struggle. Making a profitable squidoo lens requires several skills which are all required including finding niche keywords, writing good content and promotion and traffic generation. If any of the ingredients are missing then the commissions are unlikely to roll in. Here are some general tips on how to build a good lens that will earn for you.

1. Write good content. Too many lenses are simply advertisements which is a big turnoff for anyone visiting. It is also spamming the search engines which is inadvisable. Instead offer good information on a topic that will help readers. They will then be more open to considering your offers. Also make your lens interesting with pictures and other content.

2. Find a niche keyword for your lens. There are two problems with targeting a general term. First of all you are very unlikely to get ranked for a popular search keyword due to the intense competition. Second is that while those keywords may get a lot of traffic they don't convert well. That is because the searcher is at the beginning of looking for information and is not ready to buy. It is better to target more specific keyword phrases that have less competition. People searching for those specific phrases are also closer to making a purchase.

3. Get targeted traffic to your lens. Most lensmasters expect the search engines to take care of that by automatically sending a lot of traffic to their lenses. Sometimes that does happen but you should not wait for it. Get targeted traffic from other sources by writing articles, blogging, placing classified ads for your lens and participating in forums. Sometimes you will find that traffic from those other sources is of higher quality and may even convert better than search engine referrals.

4. Keep updating your lens. Even the best lenses will become stagnant and show their age eventually. Readers will appreciate having the most up to date information about your topic so it is an important thing to do. By updating your lens search engines will also reward you with more traffic.

Following those tips will help your lens become more popular and profitable.
